Anthony Bastardi, who holds a bachelor of engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology and a master of science in industrial and management engineering from Columbia University, took his first company public at age 24. Seven years later, he sold his proprietary software development firm to an insurance company.
In his 30s, Mr. Bastardi led nationwide marketing for the revolutionary Evelyn Wood Reading Dynamics program before helping hundreds of thousands of smokers give up tobacco as marketing vice president for the groundbreaking Smokenders program. Mr. Bastardi discovered a passion for the challenges of real estate development through his experience launching a chain of artisanal pasta restaurants. He has remained in the real estate field ever since.
In 1992, he was a founding partner of Construction Technology Corporation, which tapped the engineering and construction experience of Mr. Bastardi and his original partner, a Stevens classmate, to leverage a resurgence in building activity in the ’90s. The firm evolved to develop a niche in revitalizing outdated educational facilities. Subsequently, Construction Technology became involved with the healthcare field, providing cutting-edge facilities for nursing homes, assisted living facilities and hospitals. Mr. Bastardi’s experience with educational and healthcare facilities led him to found SDG in 2009.
He has served on many nonprofit boards in New Jersey. He is currently vice chairman of Public Media New Jersey, which operates NJTV, New Jersey’s Public Broadcasting Service Affiliate.
